The University of Pretoria came out on top against Cape Town Spurs in the Nedbank Cup, beating them 1-0 at the Tuks Stadium on Wednesday evening to move onto the Round of 16 of the competition.

The match started off with both teams working towards the build-up to score. The teams were evenly balanced in the beginning, but it was the University of Pretoria who were able to get the better of their opponents.

The goal finally came for Tuks in the 37th minute when Promise Mkhuma took a shot at goal and the ball hit a defender.

The referee gave a penalty for a hand ball and Delano Abrahams stepped up to convert the spot kick.

An additional three minutes were added before the end of the first half and the University of Pretoria were 1-0 up at the break.

The beginning of the second half saw Ashley Cupido, Bradley Ralani and Keagan Buchanan subbed on for the Urban Warriors in an effort to add more creativity to score.

Tuks held onto their lead well into the last 20 minutes of the match and the score remained the same.

Khomotso Marebane made a break on the counter but rushed his shot and kicked it over Urban Warriors goalkeeper Neil Boshoff who was outside of the box in the 70th minute.

Another chance for Tuks came three minutes later when Abrahams won the ball from the defence and only had the keeper to beat. His shot forced an impressive save from Boshoff.

The scoreline remained the same until fulltime, with Cape Town Spurs bowing out of the tournament and the University of Pretoria progressing to the next round.
