Masandawana are licking their wounds at the moment having suffered their second loss of the season across all competitions when they lost 2-1 to Maritzburg United away in the DStv Premiership match on Saturday.
The five-time Nedbank Cup champions reached this stage of the tournament after they hammered GladAfrica Championship side Richards Bay 4-0 away in the Last 32 encounter on February 4.
Mosa Lebusa, the Sundowns defender, has made it clear that they cannot afford to undermine Mathaithai, who are campaigning in the third tier of South African football, ABC Motsepe League (Free State).
“We don’t want to undermine them, because they can pull a shocker on us and cause an upset for us if we undermine them," Lebusa said.
“We will go to this game 100 per cent focused, give a 100 per cent performance and be professional.
"The approach is always the same, whether we are playing a team in the PSL or the lower-league teams, the main point is to win the game and we try by all means to win our games."
Meanwhile, Mathaithai's most recent game which was a Motsepe League clash against Super Eagles was called off in the 80th minute due to bad lighting at the Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium on Thursday.
The Sebete Boys eased into the Last 16 after claiming a 2-0 win over ABC Motsepe League (Northern Cape) outfit NC Professionals away on February 12 and they are making their maiden appearance in this round of the South African FA Cup.
Mathaithai star Ipeleng Seepamore, who is a former Bloemfontein Celtic attacker, says anything is possible as they look to stun the reigning DStv Premiership champions with a quarterfinal spot at stake.
"I would say it is a massive game, especially when playing against a big team like Mamelodi Sundowns," Seepamore told SuperSport.com on Monday.
"Everyone is looking forward to playing against Sundowns. We cannot wait to compete against [players from] one of the big guns [on the pitch].
"We (the players) are ready, we know what is at stake. This is the Nedbank Cup, it is the cup of dreams, so anything can happen. We are ready."
Mamelodi Sundowns: PLAYERS TO WATCH
Kennedy Mweene:The Sundowns' second-choice goalkeeper conceded a late penalty against Maritzburg and it was converted by Amadou Soukouna for the hosts' winning goal. Mweene will be determined to redeem himself against Mathaithai through his goalkeeping heroics.
Peter Shalulile:The reigning DStv Premiership Footballer of the Season has rediscovered his old form having scored in each of his last two competitive matches and he has what it takes to single-handedly inspire Masandawana to a victory over the Sebete Boys.
Mathaithai: PLAYERS TO WATCH
Sabata Manele: The central midfielder was on the score sheet against Professionals in the previous round and he will be hoping to dominate the midfield battle against a much-fancied Sundowns side, and put Mathaithai in a good position to win the match.
Teboho Modise:The left winger opened the scoring for the Sebete Boys in their win over Professionals. Modise will be looking to create problems for the Tshwane giants' defence on the night and find the back of the net in the South African FA Cup once again.
N/A – This will be the first competitive meeting of Mamelodi Sundowns and Mathaithai FC.
