Kaizer Chiefs will be determined to get back to winning ways in the Betway Premiership when they host in-form Durban City at the iconic FNB Stadium on Sunday.
Kick-off is at 3:30pm CAT.
CURRENT FORM
The wheels are coming off for Amakhosi as they extended their winless streak to four matches across all competitions with a 1-0 defeat to Richards Bay away on March 3, marking their fourth consecutive loss.
Chiefs have fallen further behind in the title race, sitting sixth in the Betway Premiership - 17 points adrift of leaders Orlando Pirates - and a defeat to City would set a new club record of five straight losses in the PSL era.
The Glamour Boys will be up against an in-form City side that remains undefeated in their last six matches across all competitions, including a recent Nedbank Cup quarterfinal win over Golden Arrows on March 8, where they advanced 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw despite playing with 10 men.
The KZN side have proven to be the surprise package of the season as they sit fourth in the Betway Premiership - just one point behind third-placed Sekhukhune United - and a win over Chiefs could propel City into the top three.
TEAM NEWS
Kaizer Chiefs face a selection headache with a long list of absentees, as Aden McCarthy and Sibongiseni Mthethwa are both suspended after accumulating four yellow cards each in recent matches.
Several Chiefs players are likely to miss the Durban City game due to injuries and recovery issues, including Brandon Petersen, Rushwin Dortley, George Matlou, Reeve Frosler, Given Msimango, Inacio Miguel, Etiosa Ighodaro, Mfundo Vilakazi, and Nkanyiso Shinga.
City, on the other hand, are yet to report any major injuries in their camp ahead of their showdown with Amakhosi and should field a largely full-strength squad.
However, coach Pitso Dladla's side will be without their influential midfielder Athini Jodwana, who begins a two-match suspension after being sent off during the recent Nedbank Cup clash against Golden Arrows.
WHAT WAS SAID?
Kaizer Chiefs winger Asanele Velebayi:
“For the fans, we know we have not been in a good mental space. From our side, we know it is not nice and we understand the frustrations.
"But I want them to know that we are all in this together. The good thing is that there is a game coming up on Sunday, and we are looking forward to making them happy again.”
Durban City coach Pitso Dladla:
“This team is built on very strong character. All of our games in the competition have been decided by penalties and we don’t want [it] but it happens.
“This team is really built on character, the players deserve a lot of credit because they don’t stop working for each other and they fight every single moment and that’s what any coach wants before the talent comes in.”
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Flavio Da Silva, Kaizer Chiefs: Having netted five goals in 12 matches, the 29-year-old is Amakhosi's main source of goals in the Betway Premiership and he could prove pivotal in ending their winless run this weekend.
Saziso Magawana, Durban City: The winger has registered five goal contributions (two goals and three assists) in his last nine matches and will carry City's hopes of securing a famous victory in Johannesburg.
