The 2025-26 Premier Soccer League season delivered a campaign rich in drama, goals, and unforgettable performances. Across 240 matches, fans witnessed a tapestry of triumphs and heartbreaks, with 485 goals lighting up stadiums — the highest tally since 2022-23.
Winners emerged in 68 percent of fixtures, with home sides proving dominant, claiming 98 of the 163 victories. Yet, the season was far from predictable: 77 matches ended in draws, and 33 of those were goalless stalemates — a reminder of the fine margins that define South African football.
Goals flowed at an average of 2.02 per game, with open play accounting for a commanding 76 percent of the total. Set pieces, headers, and long-range strikes added variety, with 78 goals from outside the box — the most since 2017-18.
Stars of the Campaign
Sede Dion led the scoring charts with 14 goals for Golden Arrows, his aerial prowess and instinct in the box proving decisive.
Iqraam Rayners was second with 12 goals. Brayan Léon kept Sundowns firing, while Relebohile Mofokeng emerged as Pirates’ talisman, contributing 10 goals and eight assists.
Mofokeng’s 18 goal contributions made him the league’s most influential attacker, underlining his rise as one of the PSL’s brightest young stars.

Creative Sparks
Orlando Pirates dominated the assist charts, with Deon Hotto and Mofokeng both registering eight. Stellenbosch’s Devin Titus chipped in with seven, showcasing the depth of playmaking talent across the league.
Defensive Walls
At the other end, goalkeeper Sipho Chaine stood tall, playing every minute of Pirates’ season and keeping 21 clean sheets — a remarkable feat of consistency. Chiefs’ Brandon Petersen produced one of the campaign’s defining moments with his fingertip save against Sundowns, a stop that may yet echo as season-defining.
Goalkeepers across the league impressed: Ricardo Goss (Siwelele) and Ronwen Williams (Sundowns) added steel, while TS Galaxy’s Ira Tapé led the saves chart with 91.
Workhorses of the Season
Durability defined several stars: Titus, Appollis, Dlamini, and Matthews all featured in every league game for their clubs. AmaZulu’s Taariq Fielies topped outfield minutes with 2 531, epitomising reliability.
This PSL season was a showcase of resilience, flair, and fine margins. From Dion’s goals to Petersen’s save, from Mofokeng’s rise to Chaine’s wall of clean sheets, the PSL reaffirmed its reputation as one of Africa’s most compelling competitions.
