Marumo Gallants striker Sibusiso Nkosi says he is using Orlando Pirates striker Boitumelo Radiopane's last season's goalscoring heroics as motivation.
Radiopane is now on loan at Cape Town Spurs in the First Division. Last season he netted 24 goals in the Diski Challenge, setting a new record for the Golden Boot Award.
Radioman, as he is known in football circles, was also voted the player of the season at the end of the campaign.
Nkosi said that had given him colossal motivation this season.
"If he [Radiopane] was able to achieve that, it clearly sends a message that anyone can do it if they working hard," said the motivated Gallants striker.
He explained: "I do not think it put us under pressure [what Radiopane did last season], instead it motivates us. If he could do it last season we can also, do it. We just need to work hard, put extra effort , and take the chances."
So far this season, Nkosi has scored six goals and is among the league's top goalscorers. He admitted that in some games, he could have done better.
He said: "In some games so far this season I have been poor but it is work in progress. I want to compete with the best, you know as a striker the team rely on you to get them goals and I will have to do that well and be among the top players by the end of the season."
Nkosi added that one of the team's main goals this season is to better their last season's record.
Last season Gallants finished at the bottom of the table with 18 points from 30 matches. Nkosi said they must improve on that and then try to push for a top-eight finish.
He concluded: "We want to play in top eight next season but first thing is to better last season's record. Listening to the coach and working hard that would be key for us to achieve that."
The Diski Challenge League is currently on a break due to Fifa World Cup that is underway in Qatar. The league will resume on the weekend of 7-8 January with a festival [ venue is yet to be confirmed].
