Kaizer Chiefs’ faltering form threatens to become a dangerous situation for the club, co-coach Cedric Kaze warned after their 3-0 derby defeat at the hands of Orlando Pirates at Soccer City on Saturday.
It was a comprehensive defeat which left the club 11 points off the pace in the title race and marked a fourth loss in five matches for Chiefs.
“I think that before three weeks ago, we were on a very, very good run, but the last three weeks, I would say that we are starting to get into a very dangerous moment, and we need to pick our heads up.
“It's true that we have had a series of bad results. But I believe that there are things that have worked in the past few months, and that we need to remind ourselves, we need to remind the players what has worked in the first phase of the league and probably come back to the basics of football, how we defend, how we don't concede, things like that, and that's the only way to go forward.”
Kaze said there had not been enough commitment from his sife in the first half, as Pirates went into a 2-0 lead.
“I didn't see much of it. I saw a lot of hesitation, a lot of fear into pressing high, going forward. So a lot of hesitation in our decision making was when we had the ball.
“I saw a lot of fear into how we want to approach and the 50-50 balls, but it's something that we need to address and we need to find solutions going forward,” he added.
“You know, in football, there are not many ways to fix things. It's only to go back to work, to give confidence to the players, to show them that what has worked before,” Kaze added.
Chiefs are next up against Richards Bay away on Tuesday with hardly any time to work on corrections.
Saturday’s defeat leaves them in fourth position on 30 points from 17 games.
