While the 2022 WAFCON champions entered the tournament as favourites, Tanzania produced a disciplined and determined performance to record their first victory over Banyana in this tournament.

While the result is a setback, it is far from the end of Banyana Banyana's campaign. The tournament is still in its early stages, and South Africa has enough quality and experience to bounce back.
However, they will need to tighten up defensively, be more ruthless in front of goal and rediscover the composure that has defined the team under Dr Desiree Ellis if they are to successfully defend their WAFCON crown.
