The South African Football Association (SAFA) has moved swiftly to dismiss swirling reports that Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has been handed a one-year contract extension.
In a strongly-worded statement, the Association labelled the claims as “false, unfounded and misleading", stressing that no new deal has been offered to the Belgian tactician. Broos remains under contract until July 2026, in line with his existing agreement.
SAFA underscored that its governance processes regarding the national team’s technical structure are still ongoing, with no decisions taken or contracts approved by the National Executive Committee. The organisation expressed regret that respected media outlets had published stories citing unnamed sources, warning that such speculation undermines its decision-making processes and misinforms the football public.
The Association also appealed to journalists to uphold responsible reporting standards by seeking official comment before publishing claims about its affairs. “A simple request for comment would enable SAFA to verify facts and assist in preventing the publication and circulation of unfounded reports,” the statement read.
SAFA reaffirmed its commitment to transparent communication, promising that any announcements regarding Bafana Bafana’s coaching positions will be made only once internal processes are complete. Stakeholders and supporters were urged to rely exclusively on official SAFA channels for accurate updates on national team matters.
For now, Broos continues his tenure uninterrupted, with his contract firmly in place until mid-2026 — and SAFA keen to ensure clarity amid the noise.
