Golden Arrows have added their name to the draw for the Round of 16 in the Nedbank Cup after they defeated Orbit College 3-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The teams’ original clash on Saturday evening was abandoned due to lightning and inclement weather. Abafana Bes’thende had led 1-0 at halftime, but Sunday’s match was a full replay over 90 minutes starting at 0-0.
Arrows picked up where they left off on Saturday night, claiming a 1-0 lead midway through the first half via Angelo van Rooi, who turned home a right-flank cross from Khulekani Shezi.
Less than 10 minutes later, the hosts doubled their advantage via Sede Dion, who rounded the goalkeeper and shot into an empty net after running onto a great through ball from Sboniso Madonsela.
Arrows controlled the second half and finished off the game in the 78th minute via Ayabulela Maxwele, who scored with a low shot from the right of the penalty area after a sweeping counter attack.
The teams will return to league action next weekend, with Arrows away to Magesi FC on Friday 13 February, and Orbit visiting Sekhukhune United on Sunday 15 February.
