With the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 on the horizon, the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Jacksa Spears will be under the spotlight in an exciting list of fixtures this weekend.
To begin with, Richards Bay and AmaZulu will get proceedings underway at the uMhlathuze Sports Stadium on Friday evening. The Natal Rich Boyz clawed their way into the tournament’s last 16 via a 4-3 in on penalties against Siwelele at the Dr Molemela Stadium on 8 February.
AmaZulu on the other hand, marked their spot in the Round of 16 courtesy of a 2-1 victory against Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on 10 February.
Elsewhere, the Brazilians will be hoping to draw inspiration from their 2022 Nedbank Cup success when they take on TS Galaxy on Saturday afternoon.
Sundowns last lifted the trophy in 2022 where they claimed a 2-1 win after extra-time against Marumo Gallants in the final at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium under the joint tutelage of Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena
The reigning Betway Premiership champions made their way to the tournament’s last 16 following a 2-1 win against Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Gomora United on 4 February, while The Rockets advanced through a 1-0 win against Marumo Gallants two days later.
Also, Orlando Pirates will be at home to South African first division side Casric Stars this weekend, with their tie scheduled to commence at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday evening.
The Nedbank Cup proved to be a happy hunting ground for Pirates during the last three seasons, after they claimed the trophy in 2023 and 2024 before losing to Kaizer Chiefs in the 2025 finale.
Apart from having success in the Nedbank Cup in recent years, Pirates are also in contention for the Betway Premiership title this season as they lead the way at the top of the log by three points over Mamelodi Sundowns following their 2-1 loss against the Brazilians this past Wednesday.
Casric Stars on the other hand are chasing promotion to the PSL and are fourth in Motsepe Foundation Championship, while they secured their ticket to the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 after a 3-0 win against Army Rockets on 7 February in the Round of 32.
Elsewhere, ABC Motsepe League side Jacksa Spears will shake hands with Vasco da Gama at the Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Jacksa saw off familiar foes in their Round of 32 assignment following a 4-2 win against fellow third-division outfit FC Cardinals after extra-time.
