All eyes will be on the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship in the latest game week, as the promotion chasing Cape Town City and log leaders Milford FC do battle at the Athlone Stadium.
Despite a slow start to life in South Africa’s first division, City sprang to life in the second half of the campaign and will now lock horns with Milford in Athlone next Tuesday. Originally set for Saturday, the fixture was recently rescheduled for Tuesday, 10 March.
Milford’s lead at the top of the pile was slashed to one point ahead of third-placed City following their 1-0 defeat against Midlands Wanderers last Saturday; they currently sit on 36 points after 19 matches.
City maintained their positive run of form heading into March with a 1-0 win against Lerumo Lions this past Sunday. The Citizens have now recorded four wins and one draw in their last five games, while Milford has three wins and two defeats in the same number of matches.
Bottom of the log Black Leopards will hope to end their losing streak when they take on Midlands Wanderers on Saturday.
Lidoda Duvha faces the pending threat of dropping to the second division after recording just 12 points from 18 matches played. Leopards suffered a 2-1 loss against Hungry Lions last time out, a result that followed a 2-0 defeat against Gomora United. As it stands, Black Leopards are seven points away from the safe zone, having played one game less than the rest of the pack.
Baroka, who are likewise staring relegation in the eye, will go toe-to-toe with Venda Football Academy on Sunday. Bakgakga recorded three draws, one win and one defeat in their last five, with their latest result being a 1-0 loss against the University of Pretoria.
Bakgakga will go into the next game sitting two points from safety, with 14th placed The Bees taking on 11th placed Highbury on Sunday.
Elsewhere, second-placed Kruger United will be keen on keeping up with Milford's pace when they face Leicesterford City on Saturday. Kruger are currently level on points with the log leaders following back-to-back wins against Upington City and Venda respectively.
