Marumo Gallants have had a busy Wednesday, firing their coach, selling their best player, getting two in return, and all before they take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership at Loftus Versfeld (live on SuperSport 7:30pm kickoff).
Phuti Mohafe has been shown the door after only five matches at the club, which have delivered only two points and left the club in the relegation places near the bottom of the table.
Mohafe only joined two months ago from Polokwane City.
“Marumo Gallants F.C. confirms that the Club has parted ways with Head Coach Phuti Mohafe and Assistant Coach Musa Bilankulu, with immediate effect,” the club stated.
“The Club will not be commenting further on the circumstances surrounding the decision or engaging on the merits of the matter.
“In the interim, Second Assistant Coach Trevor Mathiane will assume responsibility as Interim Head Coach, while the Club continues its search for a new Head Coach,” the statement added.
Mathiane had been a caretaker coach for the last part of last season with the club.
Gallants have sold midfielder Bheki Mabuza, who has had some rave reviews over the last few months, to Orlando Pirates with Zimbabwe international Daniel Msendami and Mali midfielder Abdoulaye Mariko going in the other direction.

Msendami was sold by Gallants to Pirates in January but started a single game in Buccaneers’ colours.
The player movement comes with less than two weeks left in the transfer window.
Mohafe is the third coach fired by a top-flight club this season after Cedric Kaze at Sekhukhune United and Lehlohonolo Seema at Siwelele.
