Struggling Marumo Gallants on Monday announced the suspension of coach Alexandre Lafitte, pending what a club statement said was “an internal disciplinary process”.
“The suspension follows issues relating to a failure to comply with contractual duties. The club has also
not been performing to the expected standard in recent fixtures,” said the statement.
Gallants have not won any of their last 12 matches and lost their last seven in a row, including Sunday’s 1-0 home loss to Durban City.
They are in 14th place in the Betway Premiership, ahead of the relegation places on goal difference only.
“The club takes matters of governance, professionalism, and accountability seriously. As such, the
necessary internal processes are being followed in line with the Club’s policies and contractual
obligations,” the Gallants statement continued.
“Management is concerned about the team’s current poor performance and will be announcing the
acting head coach in due course.”
Gallants are also the subject of legal action by the owners of the former Moroka Swallows, who have claimed in court papers that Gallants owner Abram Sello has not paid over money owed for the purchase of the franchise from Swallows.
Sello bought the Swallows franchise ahead of the start of the 2024-25 Premier Soccer League season.
