TS Galaxy and Golden Arrows brought the curtain down on the weekend’s Betway Premiership action by playing out a 0-0 draw at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Sunday evening.
As a result, both teams remain winless in the new league season thus far. Abafana Bes’thende are placed ninth with three points, while the Rockets are just one point and one position behind.
The teams exchanged several half-chances through the opening phase of the match, with Galaxy coming closest to breaking the deadlock on the half-hour mark when a scramble in the Arrows penalty area ended with Mpho Mvelase hitting the woodwork with a low drive.
Nine minutes later the Rockets struck the frame of the goal again, this time with Sedwyn George clipping the top of the crossbar from long range.
The hosts would have been frustrated to go to the interval with the score still 0-0, and they threatened again early in the second half, with George whipping a shot from a free kick just wide of the target in the 51st minute.
A minute later it was Arrows’ turn to try and break the deadlock, with Ronaldo Van Neel breaking free down the left of the penalty area, but from a tight angle he was denied by Galaxy goalkeeper Ira Tape.
Half-chances continued to pop up at either end, with the teams also throwing on attacking talent such as Junior Zindoga (Galaxy), as well as Philani Khumalo and Thokozani Khumalo (Arrows) to try and force the game in a different direction, but ultimately it closed in a goalless stalemate.
The teams will return to Premiership action in the final midweek of August, with Galaxy away to Marumo Gallants, and Arrows at home to Stellenbosch FC.
