Mamelodi Sundowns will look to get their Betway Premiership bid back on track when they host Siwelele FC at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off is at 5:30 pm CAT.
CURRENT FORM
Masandawana stayed top of the Betway Premiership table despite a 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs in a dramatic match at home on Wednesday, stretching their unbeaten league run to 19 matches.
Sundowns hold a three-point advantage at the summit with 62 points and two fixtures remaining. However, second-placed Orlando Pirates have a game in hand and a superior goal difference as they prepare for their away match against Magesi FC on Saturday.
Siwelele, on the other hand, are on a five-match unbeaten streak after a 2-2 draw with Durban City at home, though they have managed only one victory in their last five outings as they visit the defending champions.
The Free State outfit currently occupy ninth position; a positive result in Atteridgeville would greatly improve their prospects of finishing in the top eight and qualifying for the MTN8.
TEAM NEWS
Mamelodi Sundowns have received some positive news from the medical team, with Arthur Sales, Miguel Reisinho and Mothobi Mvala all resuming full training.
However, Bathusi Aubaas and Monnapule Saleng remain sidelined due to injury, but Masandawana will also miss suspended midfielder Jayden Adams, who has begun his two-match ban.
Siwelele, on the other hand, have no reported injuries or suspensions in their camp so far and is expected to come with a full-strength squad.
WHAT WAS SAID?
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Daniel Cardoso
“Referees need to prepare themselves, make the home work so that they know what they come for and they come for and they can control the game because now we have players in the hospital, shoulders broken, arms broken, come on who will control this? Control the match in a proper way," Cardoso said.
“I think we did what we had to do; we tried to play football but it’s very difficult, very difficult. It’s a result we need to go for the next matches, win the matches and see what happens that’s it."
Siwelele FC head coach Lehlohonolo Seema
"It would be a massive achievement for us this season to finish in the top eight, and I can tell the supporters this is our aim," Seema said.
"I can proudly say we are gunning for the top eight. “Let’s see how far we can go. It’s not easy – other teams have more points than us – but we’re not going to make it easy for anyone. We won’t relax now that we’re safe …
"We can smell the top eight now, and that smells good!”
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Brayan Leon, Mamelodi Sundowns: The free-scoring South American striker found the net for his 11th goal of the season against Kaizer Chiefs and will once again be the man Masandawana look to for inspiration as they hunt for a vital home victory.
Ghampani Lungu, Siwelele: The in-form Zambia international has hit a rich vein of form, scoring in both the recent win over Kaizer Chiefs and the draw with Durban City. Siwelele will pin their hopes on his creativity and finishing to cause an upset at Lucas Moripe.
