Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele saw their two-match unbeaten run across all competitions come to an end when they succumbed to a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Cape Town City away in a league clash on Sunday.
The Limpopo side's relegation concerns have increased as they remained 16th on the DStv Premiership standings - a point behind 14th-placed Swallows FC, who have a game in hand.
Kgoloko Thobejane, the Baroka head coach, reflected on their heavy defeat to City and he described their upcoming clash against AmaZulu as a must-win match.
"We missed a penalty, but in a cup game, we can convert all the penalties. Look at the first chance it was a penalty, then we got a red card. That is where we lost the game," Thobejane said.
"We should have at least collected a point or even three points, that would have been better. We should have moved [on the league standings].
"But we are still there [in the relegation zone]. But that is the game of football, the battle is still on. The game against AmaZulu is a must-win. it has to be a must-win."
Meanwhile, AmaZulu extended their winless run to five matches across all competitions when they drew 1-1 with Guinean giants Horoya AC away in the CAF Champions League game last week Friday.
Usuthu, who lost 2-0 to SuperSport United in their last match in the DStv Premiership, are currently placed 10th on the league standings - two points behind seventh-placed Lamontville Golden Arrows.
Vasili Manousakis, the AmaZulu assistant coach, was proud of the team after the draw against Horoya in Conakry and the KwaZulu-Natal giants have now turned their attention to the DStv Premiership.
"We had a lot of challenges coming into this game. We didn't train because our bus broke down and that disrupted our rhythm," Manousakis said."But for my team to put up a performance like that in the second half is unbelievable so I'm very proud of my team. We can't dwell on this result for long because we have a league match on Wednesday.
"Finishing in a Champions League position is going to be very difficult now but we are going to give it our all and hopefully we can achieve a top-four spot.”
