Royal AM coach Sazi Ngubane says he is looking at finishing the season with the top eight in the Diski Challenge but admits his team needs to find "that killer instinct".
Thwihli Thwahla have conceded more goals [26] than they have scored [22] so far in the league after 17 games.
The KwaZulu-Natal side passed up several opportunities in their recent two matches, where they drew 1-1 with AmaZulu FC and a 2-0 defeat against Sekhukhune United.
"We are playing good football, creating opportunities and giving up hardly any," said Ngubane.
"That is a platform to build on but we need to find that killer instinct, it's something we are all aware of. Our defence is doing well, and midfield, upfront is the only place where we have not got it right."
Royal AM are currently 10th in the Diski Challenge after 17 games. They are four points behind Sekhukhune in eighth place.
Nevertheless, given the hotly contested nature of the league, Thwihli Thwahla are less than three wins from getting into the top eight, which is their main target this season.
Ngubane added: "Despite not scoring, our target is still within our reach, but we have to go put the ball in the net at the other end.
"It would be a bigger concern if we weren't getting in the positions to score, but it is about that responsibility of putting the ball in the back of the net."
Royal AM would be hoping to get goals on Saturday when they host Golden Arrows in a league match at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont.
In the first round, the two sides played to a dull goalless draw. However, this weekend might be a different story as Arrows are looking to end their four-match winless run.
