Lesotho have named a new coach some six weeks before they play in the preliminary qualifying round of the next Africa Cup of Nations finals in East Africa.
Bob Mafoso takes over from Leslie Notši, whose contract ended at the end of last year.
Mafoso had previously served as assistant coach to Notši, but last worked in Namibia, where he was in charge of Windhoek-based club African Stars.
Mafso first coached in the Lesotho Premier League in the 2013/2014 season when he led newly promoted Likila United into sixth position before moving to Sandawana, who finished fourth the next campaign under him.
In 2016, he was appointed the assistant coach to former South Africa under-23 international James Madidilane at Bantu as the Maseru club won back-to-back league titles.
In 2018, Mafoso joined Kick4Life and returned to Bantu in 2019 as the head coach and led the club to its fourth league title after going on an 18-match unbeaten streak in a Covid-19 ravaged season.
He also had short spells in charge of Lioli and Linare before moving to Namibia, where he won the league with African Stars.
“I have mixed emotions about the job. I’m excited and scared at the same time because I know that expectations are very high,” Mafoso said of his new job.
His first task is the two-legged preliminary round qualifying tie against the Seychelles, with the first leg away and the second leg at home at the end of next month.
