Uganda beat the Democratic Republic of Congo 2-0 in a friendly played at Soccer City on Friday as the two countries used the rest of the international window to get some more practice in.
DR Congo had beaten both Equatorial Guinea and Zimbabwe in their opening Group E qualifiers for the 23027 Africa Cup of Nations finals and after success in Harare on Monday flew to Johannesburg to continue their preparations.
Uganda are top of Group H with four points after drawing away in Tunisia and then beating Libya 1-0 at home on Tuesday with 41-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango captaining the team.
But Onyango sat out on Friday as James Bogere scored after seven minutes and Kelvin Boateng three minutes into the second half of a match refereed by South Africa’s Alfred Chavani.
Boateng is a Ghanaian born graduate of the Right to Dream academy who recently switched allegiance to Uganda, where it is claimed one his grandparent’s hails from.
DD Congo’s starting line-up included new caps Ezechiel Banzuzi (RB Leipzig, Germany), Willy Kambwala (Como, Italy), Jordy Makengo (Freiburg, Germany) and Stephy Mavididi of Watford in the Championship in England.
The two countries will play a second friendly at Soccer City on Monday.
