Senegal national team coach Pape Thiaw has named a slightly changed 2026 FIFA World Cup final squad with Pape Gueye, scorer in the disputed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final against hosts Morocco, the notable inclusion.
The Teranga Lions trainer has maintained most players from the AFCON campaign held in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to 18 January 2026 save for four stars.
WHO IS IN AND WHO IS OUT?
Thiaw has dropped strikers Cheikh Sabaly, Boulaye Dia, Nobel Mendy and Habib Diallo and included Bamba Dieng.
The same is the case in midfield where there is no place for Malang Sarr with Bara Ndiaye being the latest addition.
The strong squad will start the World Cup campaign from Group I comprising former champions France, Iraq and Norway at the World Cup final tournament.
The United States, Canada and Mexico will host from 11 June to 19 July.

HEADING TO WORLD CUP AMID AFCON FIASCO
Senegal thought they had lifted the AFCON title after beating Morocco 1-0 courtesy of Villarreal FC’s Gueye extra-time goal in the disputed final on January 18, 2026.
Months later, the Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s Appeals Committee stripped them off the championship and handed it over to the Atlas Lions.
The Senegalese Football Federation is challenging CAF’s decision having lodged an appeal to the International Court of Arbitration for Sports which is yet to make its determination.
