Kaizer Chiefs begin a run of seven Betway Premiership away games in a row when they travel to Magesi FC on Wednesday but do so buoyed by a fourth successive win in the league against TS Galaxy.
The 2-0 victory tightened Chiefs’ grip on third place in their bid for CAF Confederation Cup football next season, and they have the chance to extend that advantage further against bottom side Magesi.
They are currently three points clear of AmaZulu in fourth, but have two games in hand, meaning they can create an almost insurmountable between themselves and the rest.
Co-coach Cedric Kaze feels the team are clicking at the right time of the season and says their improvement in recent weeks is on the back of consistent selection and the players understanding the system the technical team want them to play.
“The consistency in the recent results comes from the consistency in performances and the consistency in the line-up,” Kaze said.
“We have a game model that we’ve been working on, different ways to get inside the box and create overloads all over the pitch, but I believe now we understand each other better between the players and that gives us more opportunities to score.”
Chiefs are still not prolific in front of goal having netted only 24 goals in their 22 league games to date, but seven of those have come in their last three fixtures.
“It’s true that we’ve scored seven goals in the last three games, we need to keep that going into the final stretch of the season because I believe we do create enough opportunities to score even more than these,” Kaze said.
He says the technical team have told the players they need to maintain standards away from matches in the season run-in.
"It is to keep pressure on everyone at training every day, out of training, to recover well, to sleep early, and then everyone pulls in the same direction. But, as well, it is the message that is consistent at training that we can’t allow ourselves to relax.
"We have eight games to go, and as the coaches, we know what we want to do. We are here to serve the club, and we will do our best for the remainder of the games."
