Zamalek will look to claim a record-equalling third CAF Confederation Cup win when they host USM Alger in the second-leg of the final at the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off is at 8pm CAT.
CURRENT FORM
The Egyptian giants head into the decisive return leg needing to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit after a narrow loss in Algiers last weekend, where they conceded a stoppage-time penalty.
Zamalek, who have been inconsistent in recent weeks, are determined to add to their two previous Confederation Cup triumphs (2024 and 2019). This match offers them a chance to equal the record for most titles (three) in Africa's secondary club tournament.
USM Alger, meanwhile, carry a slender 1-0 aggregate lead thanks to Ahmed Khaldi’s dramatic late penalty in the first leg at the Stade du 5 Juillet.
The eight-time Algerian champions remain in strong shape, undefeated in their last six matches and are chasing a third continental honour after their 2023 Confederation Cup and Super Cup successes.
TEAM NEWS
Zamalek trio Omar Gaber, Ahmed Hossam and Mohamed El-Sayed are doubtful due to their respective injuries, while Mahmoud Bentayg is unavailable for selection due to suspension after receiving a red card in the first leg.
USM Alger, on the other hand, should have a nearly full squad available, with no major new suspensions or injuries reported beyond any first-leg cards.
Gabonese referee Pierre Atcho will officiate the eagerly-anticipated final second-leg encounter in Egypt.
WHAT WAS SAID?
Zamalek coach Moatamed Gamal
“There is a first half that has ended in Algeria, and there is still another half in Cairo. We have strong motivation to make up for this and win the title. We had hoped at least to come away with a goalless draw,” Gamal said.
“The players did what they had to do on the pitch. We defended well and had more chances to score by relying on transitions. We will fight until the last minute to win and claim the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup title...
"Zamalek have big players and they are up to the responsibility. We will make every possible effort in the return leg to win and lift the continental title."
USM Alger coach Lamine N’Diaye
“The most important thing when playing finals is to win, whatever the performance. We must work to correct some technical aspects," N’Diaye said.
"We achieved an important victory against a big team with continental experience, but the title has not been decided yet. We are one match away from winning the title, and we will fight to return from Egypt with the cup. Thank you to the players for the strong spirit they showed. I thank the supporters who were behind this victory."
HEAD-TO-HEAD
This will be the fourth meeting between Zamalek and USM Alger.
Alger are undefeated against Zamalek in their three previous meetings, recording two victories and one draw heading into their latest North African Derby showdown.
