The appointment of two coaches for Betway Premiership clubs is eagerly awaited over the next few days, with both Durban City and Magesi to name new men in charge.
Durban City earlier this week fired Sinethemba Badela after only three matches because of a conflict over the immediate way forward for the club.
Badela had also been dismissed at Chippa United after the first two games of the season because of disagreements over the way the team should play.
Sixth-placed City had shown veteran coach Gavin Hunt the door in November and are now looking for their third coach of the season.
Already Ernst Middendorp, who started the season as technical director but then quit amid a frosty relationship with Hunt only to return in mid-December, has ruled himself out.
"I was not connected to Durban City at the time the club released Gavin Hunt at the end of November 2025; I left the club at the end of September 2025,” Middendorp said.
"Officially, I joined Durban City on 15 December 2025 in the role of technical director again. I have no interest in, nor have I pursued, the position of Head Coach at Durban City.
"There has never been any intention or scenario in which I would follow Themba Badela in the head coach role.
"Throughout my tenure, I have fully supported the head coach, both professionally and structurally, in line with my mandate as technical director and in the best interests of the club."
At Magesi, John Maduka has been fired, and for the last two matches, his former assistant, Abram Nteo, has been in charge, first for the 2-0 league defeat to Orlando Pirates and then elimination from the Nedbank Cup last Saturday at Upington City.
Magesi have not made Maduka’s dismissal public, choosing a surprising silence despite their strong media presence. They have posted stories on their club website and social media platforms about other issues but ignored the change of coach.
Magesi sit bottom of the league table but have a chance to climb out of bottom place if they beat Lamontville Golden Arrows at home in Seshego on Friday.
