Newly-promoted Kruger United are set to begin their Betway Premiership campaign with a high-profile home clash against Kaizer Chiefs at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday.

The Village Boys sealed their top-flight status as Motsepe Foundation Championship champions with a dominant campaign that earned them automatic promotion, before carrying that good form into the 2026 Mpumalanga Premier’s Cup where they recorded a 1-0 triumph over Casric Stars (now known as Real Native FC) en route to the final, which they ultimately lost 3-1 to TS Galaxy.
Under coach Abram Mongoya, the newly-promoted home side may be long shots to claim a victory against the visitors, yet they possess the organisation to frustrate Chiefs by staying compact, remaining disciplined at the back and striking on the counter-attack.

Kaizer Chiefs winger Glody Lilepo, who is strongly linked with Libyan club Al-Ahly Benghazi, will miss this encounter as he completes a two-match ban, with no other suspensions for either side.
Chiefs will also be without Rushwin Dortley due to fitness issues, while Nkanyiso Shinga and Thulani Mabaso are injured, while Ashley Du Preez, Samkelo Zwane and Xolani Cossa are unavailable as they are expected to leave the club.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, who is on loan at Kruger United from Chiefs, has been cleared to face his parent club.
Both teams are set to feature new signings, with Chiefs able to call upon recent arrivals like Thabo Moloisane, Renaldo Leaner, and potentially Adolf Mtasingwa, pending his work permit.
Kruger, on the other hand, have strengthened their ranks with Fiacre Ntwari, Thabang Sibanyoni, Katlego Mohamme, Kwanda Mngonyama and several other reinforcements from their promotion-winning squad plus additional winter additions.

"You can see the spaces that they want to exploit, and we are prepared to manage those spaces, including the spaces they will leave; we also want to exploit them. We are playing them at the right time, in my opinion … it’s an ideal situation for Kruger United and the players. Getting a Chiefs side at a time where the coaches have not yet settled is a sort of perfect situation. Hopefully it goes our way.”

"I’m used to managing the pressure around me and we need our fans behind us to push us to get the best results. Our fans are passionate. They love the club and my job is to make good decisions every day. We had a good feeling on Sunday with a lot of fans pushing us on the field.”
