Stellenbosch have only a long shot at a top-eight place on the final weekend of the Betway Premiership, coach Gavin Hunt admitted, despite their 2-0 win over relegation-haunted Orbit College in their penultimate game of the campaign on Saturday.
The three points moved Stellenbosch into ninth place, but they can only qualify for a top-eight place if they win at Marumo Gallants in their last game and hope that eighth-placed Durban City lose.
Gallants host Stellenbosch, who have finished in the top eight for the last four seasons, in Bloemfontein, while City play AmaZulu in a derby on the final day of the league campaign on Saturday.
“It was a bit of a tedious performance, I thought, really slow,” said Hunt of the contest at the Danie Craven Stadium, where Chumani Butsaka scored both goals, but Orbit had the better of possession.
“The game was really slow, and it was difficult to watch it. And I don't think we created enough.
“And then, obviously, we took a long time to score the second goal, which could have made it a bit safer, but all in all, three points is good.”

Stellenbosch had opened the scoring in the fourth minute, but Butsaka’s second came only in the 67th minute.
“You know, as I’ve said, from where we were to where we have been has been good progress, but we’ve had our changes the last few weeks, where we just needed a point here and a point there, and we'd have got ourselves in a much better position.
“But now it's going to be difficult, you know. But still, we got a chance,” Hunt added.
