Durban City coach Khaled Ben Youssef said a mistake cost them a first victory of the season in the Betway Premiership, and they need to be more decisive in their finishing after a 1-1 stalemate with Richards Bay at Chatsworth on Saturday.
It was a second successive home draw for City, who were held 0-0 by Lamontville Golden Arrows on Wednesday, and who now have two points from their opening three games of the campaign.
“Last game (against Arrows), we didn't make any mistakes and concede any goals, but unfortunately this game (Richards Bay), we made a mistake, and we conceded the first goal,” he said.
It was a slip by debutant right back Kabelo Mofokeng that allowed Richards Bay’s new striker Nxaba Xulu to net after only nine minutes.
“I think the plan of the game of Richards Bay was the same, a similar game model from last season, with a block or low block and fast attack. They were so dangerous in the fast attack; they have speed playing in front,” Ben Youssef continued.
“For us, I think we need to blame ourselves. We created a lot of opportunities, like the last game, and this game. We need to be more focused in the box. We need to continue to work on our finishing, and we need to be more decisive, and we need more efficiency in the box,” he added.
“The most important thing for us is in the last third, so there are two or three players that will sign with us. So when they will be able to play, they will give us more solutions.”
Durban City have already announced the arrival of ex-Bafana Bafana midfielder Ethan Brooks at the club and brought on new Malian signing Alou Doumbia in the second half against Richards Bay.
Ben Youssef said the club would announce more signings this week.
