As one of Africa’s top performing teams at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Morocco will now turn their attention to France in the competition’s quarterfinals at the Boston Stadium on Thursday night, with Les Bleus anticipating a tough outing overall.
Kick-off is at 10pm (CAT, GMT+2).
CURRENT FORM
France booked their ticket into the final eight owing to a 1-0 win over Paraguay in the Round of 16 at the Philadelphia Stadium on 4 July.
In what was a hotly contested duel in Philadelphia, riddled with physicality and energy, it was Kylian Mbappe’s 70th-minute penalty that separated the two sides on the day, as the Frenchman continued his incredible run of form in the Americas.
As for Morocco, the Atlas Lions came away with an efficient 3-0 win over hosts Canada at the Houston Stadium to advance to the quarterfinals.
While Canada threatened throughout the encounter, Morocco recorded just five shots at goal, three of which resulted in goals from Azzedine Ounahi (2) and Soufiane Rahimi.
WHAT WAS SAID
Speaking ahead of the tie, France assistant coach Guy Stephan reserved special praises for Morocco, expressing that they’re one of the team’s to beat at the global showpiece.
Stephan mentioned that the North African side’s organisation makes them a formidable outfit to face during high-stakes matches.
“They are a well-organised team with a strong collective structure and great solidity; they are also excellent in attacking transitions and have scored a significant number of goals during this tournament,” Stephan said.
“I think the Moroccan federation is doing an excellent job and providing the necessary resources for growth. Moroccan football has made massive progress over recent years.
“They drew with Brazil and beat the Netherlands; they are fully capable of going toe-to-toe with the best European and South American teams,” the French tactician explained.
