Kaizer Chiefs could make it three wins on the bounce as they target a strong end to the Betway Premiership season, with the Glamour Boys preparing to face Chippa United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off is at 3:00pm (CAT, GMT+2).
CURRENT FORM
The Glamour Boys have already secured a third placed finish in the league this season as they sit 10 points ahead of fourth placed AmaZulu heading into their last league assignment of the campaign.
With CAF Confederation Cup football ticked off, Chiefs will go into their next match on the back of a 1-0 win over AmaZulu during Matchday 29, a result that came after a 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United on 10 May.
Chiefs have now noted two wins, two draws and one loss in their last five ties and will hope to increase on their 54-point haul for the 2025/26 season.
Chippa on the other hand, currently occupy 13th on the table, one point adrift of the PSL Promotion/Relegation play-off zone.
The Eastern-cape side last saw out a 2-0 loss against Golden Arrows, while they recorded three defeats in their last five games.
With 15th being the lowest possible position for Chippa this season, the Chilli Boys could ensure safety with a draw, with the hope of favourable results in matches regarding Marumo Gallants and Orbit College. However, a win against Chiefs will result in outright survival following a torrid campaign.
WHAT WAS SAID
In reflection of the upcoming tie, Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has called on the club’s Durban fan-base to come out in their numbers as they look to close their campaign on a positive note.
“I would say that Moses Mabhida Stadium has been very good to us, Durban has been very good to us throughout the season, the CAF Confederation Cup, the league every time we come here the fans they cheering us, they give us that extra energy to extra mile,” Kaze said.
“The other is I’m very humbled by the support that we get from the fans and that’s why we do everything we can on the field to make them happy.
“I want to make a plea to them that next Saturday it’s gonna be final home game here in Durban, come out numbers, come support the club of your life and we will give you everything to give your joy back.”
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Kaizer Chiefs: Makabi Lilepo – After getting his name on the scoresheet against AmaZulu, Lilepo will no doubt look to end his season on a high. Condering that Lilepo’s form dipped in the weeks prior to the Usuthu tie, the Chiefs attacker gained a much-needed confidence booster ahead of the club’s final league match.
Chippa United: Abbubaker Mobara – With the Chilli Boys looking to avoid the Relegation play-off zone, Mobara’s experience and leadership will be crucial against a confident Chiefs outfit. Mobara is no stranger to high-profile encounters while his teammates will look to his guidance from a defensive solidarity point of view.
