Bradley Grobler’s late goal for Stellenbosch in the Betway Premiership was his first for his new club but the 130th of his Premier Soccer League career, edging him closer to Peter Shalulile record.
Grobler squeezed home the 87th minute equaliser as Stellenbosch came from behind the share the spoils with Sekhukhune United at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Friday.
The goal saw him move past Siyabonga Nomvete into solo second position in the list of all-time goalscorers since the PSL was launched in 1996.
Grobler’s first goal was scored for Platinum Stars away in a 3-1 loss to Free State Stars in late November 2007 and has subsequently netted for Ajax Cape Town, SuperSport United, Sekhukhune and now Stellenbosch, who signed him at the beginning of this season.
The 38-year-old only once finished as the league’s leading goalscorer in the 2020-21 season with 16 for SuperSport.
Nomvete scored 129 goals between 1997 and 2019 for African Wanderers, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Moroka Swallows and AmaZulu.
Shalulile’s record is 134 goals in the colours of Highlands Park and Mamelodi Sundowns with his last goal in the Nedbank Cup against Gomora United in February.
The Namibian goal ace has since signed for Young Africans in Tanzania.
