Orbit College FC are determined to slow down champions Mamelodi Sundowns' Betway Premiership title pursuit when the two teams square off at Olympia Park on Tuesday. Kick-off is at 17:30pm CAT, live on SuperSport.
CURRENT FORM
Mswenko Boys are unbeaten in their last two matches, claiming an impressive 2-1 away win over TS Galaxy on 3 March after a draw with Richards Bay on 28 February, boosting their fight to retain Betway Premiership status.
Orbit currently sit in the relegation playoff spot (15th), just three points behind 12th-placed Golden Arrows, but a win over Mamelodi Sundowns would lift the North West side out of the danger zone.
Sundowns, meanwhile, stretched their unbeaten run to three matches with a 2-1 home win over Golden Arrows on 3 March, marking their sixth consecutive Betway Premiership victory.
Masandawana currently sit joint-top of the league standings, level on points with Orlando Pirates, who hold the edge on goals scored, but a win over Orbit would help solidify the Tshwane giants' summit position as the championship race heats up.
TEAM NEWS
Orbit College have no suspension issues for this fixture, but Katlego Cwinyane is unlikely to feature in the matchday squad as the Orlando Pirates product continues his fitness recovery following a long-term injury.
Sundowns, on the other hand, will be without the suspended Jayden Adams, while Mothobi Mvala, Zuko Mdunyelwa, Bathusi Aubaas, Keanu Cupido and Thapelo Morena are injury doubts.
WHAT WAS SAID?
Orbit College head coach Pogiso Makhoye:
“[Beating TS Galaxy was an] important win because we are playing the defending champions on Tuesday,” Makhoye said.
“At least game number 20, let’s get three points on the board because it doesn’t make sense when teams that we are fighting relegation with are dropping points and we also do the same. I think these four points from this week will help us at least to relieve pressure. But the process is still there; we are learning.
“We need to fight and it’s going to be a long way. Our target is to ensure that in at least five games we get four points. The priority is to make sure we stay in this league.”
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardos:
“We got stronger; we got players that made us stronger. We have an attitude, [as a] collective, that is in the direction of the values we have in the locker room," Cardoso said.
"We are living them and expressing ourselves every day. We are more committed than ever, we are more together than ever, and we train harder than ever... There are a lot of questions I addressed at the beginning of the season. You just have to go back and look at them, and you will see we were right.
"We get energy out of challenges, but we need to keep our focus... and we need to be very committed... From now on, we think about the next match to win... [and] everyone is thinking about the match against Orbit.”
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Lesedi Kapinga, Orbit College: The experienced attacker scored a morale-boosting goal against TS Galaxy and will be eager to haunt his former club, Mamelodi Sundowns, by inspiring Mswenko Boys to a vital victory.
Iqraam Rayners, Mamelodi Sundowns: The lethal striker has found the back of the net three times in his last two league matches and will carry Masandawana's hopes of securing a crucial victory in Rustenburg.
