While the Soweto Derby will be central in the Betway Premiership over the next couple of days, clubs such as Magesi and Orbit College will face increasing pressure heading into this weekend’s league action.
To begin with, the South African football fraternity will come to a standstill on Saturday as Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates do battle at the FNB Stadium.
Both Soweto giants are deemed as title contenders this season, however, Pirates have been putting up a stronger fight. The Sea Robbers are currently second on the log, level on points with Sundowns (38) after 17 matches. The latter is set to face third-placed Sekhukhune United at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday.
Chiefs on the other hand are in fourth place, eight points behind Pirates and Sundowns. The Buccaneers and Glamour Boys head into their next encounter following losses: Pirates suffered a damaging 2-1 defeat to Sundowns, while Chiefs came second-best in a 2-1 loss against Stellenbosch last time out.
Elsewhere, bottom-of-the-log Magesi are scheduled to take on Polokwane City at the Seshego Stadium on Friday night.
The Limpopo Derby comes at a crucial time of the 2025/26 campaign, as Magesi battles to shake off the relegation shackles. They have 12 points from 17 matches and are three points away from safety.
Then, 15th placed Orbit College hope to overturn their negative run of form when they take on Richards Bay at Olympia Park on Saturday. Sitting in the Relegation play-off spot, Orbit recorded four defeats in their last five games and are one point away from safety.
Also, Stellenbosch will hope to continue their rise up the table when they go toe-to-toe with AmaZulu at the Danie Craven Stadium on Friday night. Sitting in 11th position, the Cape Winelands side are unbeaten in their previous three league ties, most notably after their 2-1 victory against Chiefs earlier this week.
Usuthu on the other hand, suffered back-to-back defeats against Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in their most recent assignments as they endure a sticky spell heading into the month of March.
