Improving Stellenbosch FC claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over AmaZulu FC in the Betway Premiership match played at the Danie Craven Stadium on Friday night.
The win elevated Stellies to ninth place in the standings - two points behind eighth-placed TS Galaxy. Coach Gavin Hunt's side, now undefeated in four league games, will be away to Siwelele FC on Match 3.
Usuthu, on the other hand, remained fifth in the standings after recording their third consecutive league defeat. Arthur Zwane and his charges must go back to the drawing board ahead of their March 4 home clash with Magesi FC.
Having grabbed two assists and scored one goal in recent matches against Kaizer Chiefs, Ibraheem Olalekan Jabaar continued his good form for Stellies.
The former Nigeria youth international broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute by beating goalkeeper Darren Johnson, giving Stellenbosch a 1-0 lead at the interval.
The hosts looked dangerous on transition after the restart and they were awarded a penalty when Devin Titus was fouled in the box in the 62nd minute, but Jabaar missed the resulting spot-kick.
However, Stellies managed to hold onto their slender lead in the latter stages of the encounter, containing AmaZulu and the match ended in a 1-0 victory for the Winelands side.
