Orlando Pirates breathed fresh life into their Betway Premiership title challenge with a commanding 5-0 victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Buccaneers produced a dominant display in front of their home supporters, but despite the emphatic win, they remain second on the standings - two points adrift of leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, with seven matches still to play.
Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side now turn their attention to a tricky away fixture against Richards Bay on Friday, with his free-scoring side having scored 11 goals against TS Galaxy and Arrows.
For Arrows, the defeat was a missed opportunity to solidify their position in the top eight.
Abafana Bes’thende stayed eighth in the table and will look to bounce back when they host Durban City in the KZN Derby on Saturday.

The hosts doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark when Deon Hotto played in Oswin Appollis, who netted with a powerful long-range strike, with the former grabbing his eighth assist of the season.
Pressure continued to mount on Arrows, and they soon conceded a third goal when Ayabulela Maxwele turned a shot from Masindi Nemtajela into his own net in the 36th minute.
Pirates went into the interval with a commanding 3-0 lead.
The Soweto giants refused to ease off after the break. Just 16 minutes into the second half, Mofokeng lit up the pitch with a dazzling solo run, smashing home his 10th goal of the season (and ninth in the league) to extend the lead to 4-0.
Both teams pushed forward with late attacks, but it was Appollis who struck again in stoppage time, sealing Pirates' emphatic 5-0 victory over Golden Arrows.
The Bafana Bafana winger was netting his ninth goal of the season.
