One Lion roar to Philly's Game title
One Lion are the 2022 Philly’s Games champions after beating favourites Isithembiso FC in a penalty shootout at the Esqongweni sports complex in Thembisa on Monday.
The football ground was packed to capacity an hour prior to kickoff and the 20 000 fans were royally entertained by various curtain raisers ahead of the big clash.
It was a very tactical games as both teams packed the midfield. After 90 minutes of action, the scores were locked at 0-0 and it was up to the penalty shootout to separate these teams.
One Lions held their nerve in the shootout to prevail 5-4 and walk away R200 000 richer with Isithembiso pocketing R70 000 as runners-up.
Both teams will be part of the 2023 DStv Champion of Champions tournament to be played later in the year.
The team from Ivory Park beat the likes of Ambassadors and AT Mambas on their way to the finals.
