What has been going on in LALIGA this past week? Here’s all you need to know, from Carlo Ancelotti and Isco’s high-profile new contracts to Vitor Roque’s arrival at FC Barcelona.
Isco renews with Real Betis until 2027
As one of the best performers so far this LALIGA EA SPORTS season, Isco’s decision to renew his contract with Real Betis is great news for Los Verdiblancos. The midfielder has committed to the club until 2027, meaning his career at the Estadio Benito Villamarín is only just getting started.
Sevilla FC have a new president
New Year’s Eve saw the Sevilla FC board met to announce José María del Nido Carrasco as the new president of the institution. He takes over from José Castro Carmona, who had been at the helm for the past decade.
Carlo Ancelotti is staying at Real Madrid
Real Madrid announced this past week that Carlo Ancelotti has agreed to a new contract, which will run until 2026. The Italian is, therefore, staying at the club where he has already won 10 titles. The leading coach in club history in terms of honours is Miguel Muñoz, with 14, and Ancelotti could close in on that record over the coming years.
Vitor Roque links up with FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona welcomed Vitor Roque to the club this past week. The 18-year-old Brazilian forward has bid farewell to Athletico Paranaense and is ready to begin his career as a Barça player. He has already met his new teammates and begun training under Xavi’s orders, and hopes to make his debut soon.
Successful surgery for Roger Martí
Cádiz CF striker Roger Martí has had successful surgery on the injury he suffered in the middle of December, having fractured his fibula and suffered damage to ligaments in his right ankle. The recovery period will last several months, but he hopes to return for the final weeks of the season.
Marcos Alonso heads for surgery
One other LALIGA EA SPORTS player who is set for surgery is FC Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso, who’ll go under the knife to solve a persistent back issue. He should miss approximately two months of action as he recovers.
Diego López announces his retirement
Goalkeeper Diego López announced this past week that he is hanging up his gloves at the age of 42, after an impressive career which saw him make 390 appearances in LALIGA EA SPORTS for Real Madrid, Villarreal CF, Sevilla FC, RCD Espanyol and Rayo Vallecano.
Several LALIGA EA SPORTS players are called up for AFCON
The Africa Cup of Nations will take place in January of 2024 and several LALIGA EA SPORTS players have been called up by their countries, including Ivory Coast’s Jonathan Bamba, Nigeria’s Umar Sadiq, Mozambique’s Reinildo, Morocco’s Youssef En-Nesyri, Algeria’s Aïssa Mandi and many others.
Atlético de Madrid win the latest edition of FC Futures
The latest edition of LALIGA FC FUTURES was held this past week, with this being one of the most prestigious Under-12s youth football tournaments in the world. This latest tournament was one by Atlético de Madrid, with Marco Camarero scoring a brilliant last-gasp goal to earn a 2-1 win over Real Madrid in the final.
Spanish clubs welcome their fans to training
It is traditional in Spain for LALIGA EA SPORTS clubs to invite their fans to an open training session during the festive period, and that was the case across the country this past week. Thousands of fans visited the facilities and stadiums of their favourite teams to enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at training, before the players and coaches signed countless autographs and posed for selfie after selfie.
