FC Porto - Arsenal

The last time Arsenal got past the round of 16 in the Uefa Champions League, they did so by beating FC Porto 6-2 on aggregate in the 2009-10 campaign. Nicklas Bendtner scored a hat-trick at the Emirates for the Gunners in that tie.

Arsenal have won all three of their home Champions League games against FC Porto by an aggregate score of 11-0 but are winless in all three away games (D1 L2).

Arsenal is unbeaten in their last eight major European games against Portuguese teams (W3 D5), all in the UEFA Europa League, since losing 2-0 to Sporting Braga in November 2010 in the Champions League.

Napoli – Barcelona

Napoli have never won a major European match against Barcelona (D2 L2), facing them in the round of 16 of theChampions League in 2019-20, losing 4-2 on aggregate.

Barcelona are winless in their last three Champions League games against Italian opponents (D1 L2), losing as many of those three games as in their previous 19 games against Italian teams (W11 D6 L2).

Paris Saint-Germain – Real Sociedad

This is the first time Paris Saint-Germain have faced Real Sociedad in a European match, with their opponents the eighth different Spanish side PSG have met in Europe (also Real Madrid, Barcelona, Deportivo de La Coruña, Racing de Santander, Sevilla, Athletic Club and Valencia).

Real Sociedad have never beaten a French side in a major European match (D1 L3), with this their first since facing Monaco in the 2021-22 Uefa Europa League group stage, drawing 1-1 at home and losing 2-1 away.

Internazionale – Atlético de Madrid

The only previous meeting between Internazionale and Atlético de Madrid was in the 2010 Uefa Super Cup, won 2-0 by the Spaniards thanks to goals from Jose Antonio Reyes and Sergio Agüero.

This will be Internazionale’s first Champions League knockout match against a Spanish side since the 2009-10 semifinal, when José Mourinho’s Inter eliminated Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona 3-2 on aggregate.

Atlético last faced an Italian side in the knockouts in the 2018-19 round of 16 – after winning 2- 0 in the first leg against Juventus, they lost 3-0 in the second leg and were eliminated.

PSV Eindhoven – Borussia Dortmund February

PSV and Borussia Dortmund haven’t faced in Europe since the 2002-03 Champions League first group phase – Dortmund won 3-1 at the Philips Stadion before a 1-1 draw at Signal Iduna Park.

This is PSV’s first Champions League knockout game against a German side, losing eight of 12 games against German teams in the group stages (W3 D1).

Borussia Dortmund’s only previous knockout tie with a Dutch team came in the 1995-96 quarterfinal, losing 3-0 on aggregate against eventual losing finalists Ajax.

Lazio – Bayern Munich

The only previous meetings between Lazio and Bayern Munich came at precisely this stage of the tournament in the Champions League, with the German side winning 6-2 on aggregate to progress from the round of 16 in 2020-21.

Bayern Munich have qualified from the Champions League round of 16 in each of the last four seasons, since being eliminated by Liverpool in 2018-19.

Each of their last four progressions at this stage have been done by at least a three-goal margin: 7-1 v Chelsea in 2019-20, 6-2 v Lazio in 2020-21, 8-2 v RB Salzburg in 2021-22 and 3-0 v Paris Saint-Germain last season.

FC København – Manchester City

FC København are the sixth different side to face both Manchester United and Manchester City in the same Champions League season after Real Madrid in 2012-13, FC Bayern München in 2013-14, Basle in 2017-18, Paris Saint-Germain in 2020-21 and Atlético de Madrid in 2021-22

Manchester City have progressed from the round of 16 in each of the last six seasons in the Champions League, while the last side to go out at this stage of the competition as the reigning champions was Liverpool in 2019-20 (2-4 on aggregate v Atlético de Madrid).

All three occasions of a Danish side facing the reigning champions in the Uefa Champions League have been against English opposition, with Aalborg BK in 2008-09 v Man Utd (D1 L1) and FC Nordsjælland in 2012-13 v Chelsea (L2) doing so previously in the group stages.

RB Leipzig – Real Madrid

RB Leipzig and Real Madrid met in the Champions' League group stage last season – their only two meetings with them to date. After losing away (0-2), the German side won 3-2 in the reverse fixture at home, with that being one of only two defeats for Real Madrid in the competition last term (also away to Man City in the semifinal).

Real Madrid have only lost one of their last 16 matches against German opponents in European competition (W11 D4), although that one defeat did come away to RB Leipzig in this competition last term (2-3 in October 2022).
