African players really showed up in the Uefa Champions League group stages to help their respective teams reach the last 16 and also secure Europa League tickets.
There was a total of 30 goals scored by Africans in the Champions League with Egyptian star Mohamed Salah leading the African scorers chart with a total of seven goals and one assist in six matches for Liverpool.
Salah scored a hat-trick for Liverpool in their 7-1 win over Rangers which broke the record for the quickest hat-trick ever scored in the Uefa Champions League, the previous record was held by Bafetimbi Gomis whose treble was in eight minutes for Lyon in their 7-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb.
The Reds’ striker took just six minutes and 12 seconds to score his treble at Ibrox, having only come on as a substitute seven minutes before his opening strike.
When it comes to the assists by Africans, the Cameroonian talisman Zambo Anguissa leads the African pack in the UCL with three and one goal for Napoli.
