The German club – who had claimed their sixth European Cup the previous season – won both legs against the Italian side three years ago and come into this tie in good heart having remained unbeaten in finishing eight points clear at the top of Group A.

While Bayern are making a 16th successive appearance in the Champions League knockout rounds, Lazio are involved for only the third time and lost to Bayern in their sole previous round of 16 tie.

The Rome club were second behind Atlético de Madrid in Group E, missing out on top spot thanks to a 2-0 loss in Spain on Matchday 6.
