This will be Real Sociedad’s first home game in the knockout stages of the Uefa Champions League since February 2004, which was also against a French opponent in the round of 16 (0-1 v Lyon – eliminated 0-2 on aggregate).

Paris Saint-Germain have only won two of their 12 away games against Spanish sides in the Uefa Champions League (D3 L7), suffering defeats in six of the last eight in this run (W1 D1). They’ve not kept a clean sheet in any of these 12 matches overall, conceding an average of 2.3 goals per game (28 in total).

The last time a Spanish team lost the first leg of a Uefa Champions League knockout stage tie by 2+ goals but still managed to progress was in 2016-17, with Barcelona eliminating Paris Saint-Germain 6-5 on aggregate (lost 0-4 in Paris, won 6-1 in the second leg).

This is the 10th time Paris Saint-Germain have gone into the second leg of a Uefa Champions League knockout stage game ahead on aggregate – of the previous nine occasions when doing so, the French side have only managed to progress from five of those ties (eliminated four times).

Real Sociedad have only been behind on the scoreboard for 37 minutes in the Uefa Champions League this season, and haven’t trailed in any of their home games so far. Overall, only Real Madrid (26 minutes) and Arsenal (29 minutes) have been behind for fewer minutes than La Real this term.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has lost three of his previous five away games against Real Sociedad across all competitions (W1 D1), with all three of those defeats coming in LaLiga between 2013 and 2016 (twice with Barcelona and once with Celta Vigo).

Real Sociedad forced 19 high turnovers in the first leg of this tie - the most by a team away to Paris Saint-Germain in a Uefa Champions League game on record (since 2006-07). Indeed, La Real are the team that have made the most high turnovers overall in the competition this season (89).

Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo has generated an average of 2.5 chances per 90 following a carry in the Uefa Champions League this season (1.5 shots and 1 chance created). Among players with 250+ minutes played, the only three to average more than that per 90 in the competition this term all play for Real Madrid: Rodrygo (3.4), Jude Bellingham (2.8) and Vinícius Júnior (2.8).

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé has been directly involved in 34 goals in 31 away appearances in the Uefa Champions League (23 goals, 11 assists) – indeed, this is the most of any player away from home in the competition since the start of 2016-17.

Fabián Ruiz created the most chances (3) and had the highest pass completion rate (97% - 55/57) of any Paris Saint-Germain player in the first leg against Real Sociedad. The Spaniard also has the best pass completion rate under pressure of any player for the French side in 2023-24 (93%).
