Mozambique will be keen to end a disappointing 2022 Fifa World Cup qualification group D campaign with a win over Malawi at the Stade de l'Amitié in Benin on Tuesday.

Kick-off is at 3pm CAT.

The Mambas stretched their winless run to four matches when they lost 3-0 to Ivory Coast away on Saturday night and it was their fourth successive defeat in group D.

Mozambique find themselves placed fourth on the group standings, having accumulated just one point from their 0-0 draw against Ivory Coast at home in September this year.

Elias Domingues Pelembe, the Mambas' veteran winger, told the Mozambican Football Federation's official Facebook page that he is pleased to be back in the national team fold.

"As always, I will try to give the best of myself. I like to represent the country. I am back and I will make my contribution," Pelembe said.

"I am motivated and now you have to have responsibilities and restore confidence on the ground."

Meanwhile, Malawi made it three defeats in a row in group D when they succumbed to a 4-0 loss to a ruthless Cameroon side at home on Saturday afternoon.

The Flames' embarrassing loss left them placed third on the group standings with three points which they collected from their 1-0 win over Mozambique at home in September this year.

Meke Mwase, the Malawi head coach, explained that they are using their matches against Cameroon and Mozambique as preparation for next year's Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.

“We don’t have pressure and we have told the boys to go out there and enjoy their game," Mwase said on Malawi 24.

“As preparatory games, we are going to try as many players as possible to see who is ready for the big stage."

The last time Mozambique hosted Malawi was in February 2009.

The Mambas secured a 2-0 win over the Flames in an international friendly match which took place at the Estádio da Machava in Matola.
