Amaswaiswai suffered a heartbreaking narrow defeat to Royal AM in the DStv Premiership match as Elias Pelembe scored in stoppage time to earn Thwihli Thwahla a 1-0 win in Durban last weekend.
It was the five-time Nedbank Cup winners' second defeat in their last three competitive games having reached the Last 16 after eliminating GladAfrica Championship side TS Sporting last month.
The defeat to Royal AM left Swallows just a place above the relegation zone on the league standings, but the club's head coach Kerr is keen to ensure that his side reaches the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals.
“Our players were dejected after what they did as a unit. We have to see how we are going to win the game," Kerr, who won the last season's Nedbank Cup with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, said.
"Sadly, we were caught at the death. We are in the bottom three and have wasted 24 points since I arrived at the club. We haven’t had luck in front of goal.
"The priority is on the league but I’d also like to win this trophy. It is the biggest trophy in South Africa, no disrespect to the Compact Cup and MTN 8. This tournament is the equivalent to the English FA Cup."
Meanwhile, Royal AM are among the most in-form South African top-flight teams at the moment as their win over Swallows extended their unbeaten run to five matches across all competitions.
Thwihli Thwahla's five-match unbeaten run includes four victories having booked their place in the Last 16 after defeating fellow top-flight club Cape Town City last month.
With his side placed second on the DStv Premiership standings, Royal AM head coach John Maduka is now looking forward to facing the Soweto giants for the second time within six days.
“We want to go to another stage in the cup and for us to be able to do so we'll have to go all out,” Maduka, who guided Bloemfontein Celtic to the 2020 Nedbank Cup final, said.
“We will be playing Swallows for the second time in as many days but this will be a different ball game. It's a cup game and if you don't finish it in 90 minutes you get extra time and penalties.
“But we would love to go all out and make sure we try our best because we have got a squad that's capable and we're looking forward to the game.”
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Swallows
Dillon Solomons: The 25-year-old quick winger was able to use his explosive speed to create problems for the Royal AM during their recent encounter with Swallows and he could be the man to inspire Amaswaiswai to a victory over the Durban-based side.
Mwape Musonda: The 2018/19 PSL Golden Boot award winner has regained his full match fitness having scored the winning goal against Sekhukhune United late last month. Musonda will pose a threat to Royal AM from crosses played into Thwihli Thwahla's box.
Royal AM
Thabo Matlaba: The experienced full-back has hit the ground running at Thwihli Thwahla having joined the club from Swallows two months ago. Matlaba, who provided the assist for Pelembe's winning goal, will be keen to haunt Amaswaiswai once again.
Elias Pelembe: The accomplished attacker is most likely to start after he came off the bench to score the decisive goal against Swallows and he will be determined to play an instrumental role in helping Royal AM reach the quarter-finals for the first time.
