Mamelodi Sundowns coach Surprise Moriri has explained the return of Siyanda Nyanga to the DStv Diski Challenge team.
The 20-year-old playmaker was sent on loan to Pretoria Callies in the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the beginning of last season.
He went there to gain more experience but he found himself getting little game time until the club opted to bring him back.
Moriri said they are trying to help him to get to his level best again and then they would weigh options in terms of what is next for him.
In 2021 Nyanga was voted the DStv Diski Challenge Rewired Player of the Tournament.
Moriri explained: “Siyanda went to Callies and he did not play as much as we thought. We looked at him, sat down with him and checked the possibilities. He told us that maybe it is best that we play him for six months because he has not played in a while, he was not played at Callies.
“If he played well maybe December or January we will ship him out [loan to First Division or PSL] but if not we will continue with him for the rest of the season. But it is about helping him making sure that he get to the condition that he was before he left.”
Moriri also revealed that he was happy with the return of another star player Jerome Karelse who spent the past campaign out injured.
Karelse had a great start last season and he was believed that we would give Boitumelo Radiopane serious competition in the golden boot race, but he sustained a long terms injury after seven games which ruled him out for the rest of the season.
In four matches so far, he has scored two goals and Moriri is expecting more from the striker.
“The only thing that is missing from Jerome is goals. We are happy with him but we need to support him, he will get the goals, we know of that. We are really happy with him, as much as he has not scored a lot so far, off the ball he is helping us and also in terms of creating space for other players. he is doing well,” Moriri explained.
