Stellenbosch FC were crowned the new Champions of the DStv Diski Challenge.

Stellies defeated TS Galaxy at Tsakane Stadium on Saturday to clinch the title with 64 points from 30 matches.

The Cape Town-based club came to the match needing a point to win the league title following an intense neck-to-neck race with runners up SuperSport United.

They came from a goal down to beat TS Galaxy 2-1.

Stellies showed their intention from the first minute of the match against Galaxy; however, they could not crack The Rockets' defence.

As the match progressed, Galaxy grew confidence and created a couple of chances. Galaxy were rewarded in the 40th minute of the game when Daanyal Danya combined with Aphelele Teto to finally break Stellies defence and get a goal.

However, their celebrations were short-lived as Stellenbosch FC grabbed an equalizer five minutes later through Antonio van Wyk's well-worn set-piece.

The two sides went to the break tied on 1-1.

In the second half, Stellenbosch continued to pile up pressure on Galaxy, and they were able to get a lead in the 65th minute through van Wyk who displayed a man of the match performance on the day.

Galaxy tried to fight back, but Stellenbosch were able to contain the pressure until the final minute of the match.

Stellies join the likes of the University of Pretoria, Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows in the list of the teams that have lifted the Diski Challenge title.

In Durban, SuperSport United set a new record of 10 straight wins in the Diski Challenge when they beat Royal AM 2-0.

SuperSport went to the match hoping for a miracle to win the title. They needed a win and hoped that Stellenbosch would lose to Galaxy to clinch the title.

However, that was not the case as Stellies emerged victoriously.
