What a weekend of sport!

This weekend gives meaning to the 'clash of the titans' as Manchester City take on Arsenal in the FA Community Shield, while the Springboks challenge the Pumas in Buenos Aires and Banyana Banyana continue their World Cup journey.

From the new football season to the thrills of the British GP – this weekend is sure to cater to all sports lovers.

NETBALL WORLD CUP

The Spar Proteas have put in sterling performances at this year's Netball World Up, none more so than the exhilarating 48-48 draw with defending champions New Zealand. Having fallen short of making the semifinals, the Proteas will compete in the playoffs while the semifinals and final take place on Saturday and Sunday respectively. The showpiece matches will end what has been a historic tournament which was brought to fans by an all-female production crew at SuperSport.

FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP

The stellar performances of South Africa, Nigeria and Morocco at this year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup have generated much fanfare and national pride. The African giants take on England, the Netherlands and France in historic round of 16 clashes on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday respectively.

All eyes will be on the likes of Asisat Oshoala and Thembi Kgatlana to propel the lore of women's football on the continent and inspire the next generation of young girls to become professional footballers.

NEW FOOTBALL SEASON

In what is the traditional curtain raiser to the new season in England, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City take on close competitors, Arsenal in the FA Community Shield. Live on Sunday, the match is set to prepare lovers of the PL for yet another riveting football season which kicks off on Friday, 11 August live on the Home of Sport.

RUGBY

Following their narrow win over Argentina at Emirates Airlines Park this past Saturday, Bongi Mbonambi will be captain as he leads the Springboks in Buenos Aires for their first Rugby World Cup warm-up match against the Pumas.

This will be the last game before coach Jacques Nienaber announces his final squad of players who will be tasked with defending the Webb Ellis Cup in France. That announcement will be broadcast on the Home of Sport, DStv on SuperSport, on Tuesday 8 August, at 14:00 on SuperSport Grandstand, DStv channel 201.

BRITISH GP

The tracks at the historic Silverstone Circuit will be lit up on Saturday and Sunday by the British GP. Two points separate Francesco Bagnaia and Marco Bezzecchi at the top of the MotoGP rider's championship. Catch the race from 14:00 on SuperSport Motorsport, DStv channel 215.
