The 17th edition of Africa’s longest running women’s sport recognition platform, the Momentum gsport Awards, will be broadcast live on SuperSport Variety 4, Channel 209 at 20h00 CAT on Wednesday.
In 2021, South Africa’s leading multi-channel sport network signed a three-year agreement with gsport, to showcase and premiere the annual awards ceremony.
Entering into the second year as broadcast partner, SuperSport will look to further
visibility and coverage as well as encourage more people and sponsors to back women in sport.
“The past 12 months have been remarkable for women's sport particularly, both at home and internationally. There is a greater awareness and appreciation for the excellence and sacrifice of women and we at SuperSport have been proud to showcase these qualities. The awards thus align with our philosophy to shine a light on women's sport and the special people within,” said Marc Jury, SuperSport Chief Executive.
It’s the fourth year that Momentum are on board as Naming Rights partner of the awards, and are set to take sport and glamour to the next level as women in sport boldly own their success on the red carpet.
Head of Momentum Brand, Charlotte Nsubuga-Mukasa said: “Women’s sport receives 4 per cent of all sports-related media coverage versus the 96 per cent of coverage men receive. This media visibility gap affects livelihoods and success on the field. That’s why we champion our #OneMoreFan campaign throughout the year. The gsport Awards showcase a partnered effort towards bridging this gap – the more we encourage fans to watch women athletes, the faster we bridge the sponsorship gap.”
Founder of gsport, Kass Naidoo, said: “It’s a night to acknowledge and celebrate the wonderful achievements of women in sport in Africa. With SuperSport broadcasting the event live, it’s going to be one giant watch party in support of women’s sport.”
The Momentum gsport Awards is endorsed by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, and supported by Imperial, Nielsen Sports South Africa, Mail & Guardian, Sasol, SuperSport, Telkom, and Brand South Africa.
