Alvaro Bautista, the reigning World Superbike champion, secured a double victory at Assen, winning the Superpole Race after outpacing Jonathan Rea.
The result means he will start Race 2 from the front of the grid, having already won Race 1 on Saturday.
Bautista had been penalised with a three-place grid penalty for Race 1 alongside Axel Bassani due to slow riding during qualifying, but he once again started the Superpole Race in first position.
Before the race began, Loris Baz encountered a mechanical problem during the formation lap and stopped at the side of the track. Liquid from Baz's M 1000 RR at turn seven delayed the race start, and the organisers confirmed a new schedule of 8 laps after a 15-minute delay.
Rea had a fantastic launch at the start of the race and took the lead, with Bautista following closely behind. However, Bautista regained the lead before the end of the first lap, with Razgatlioglu and Lowes close behind.
Despite appearing to be pushing his Ducati to the limit and sliding on a few occasions, Bautista could not pull clear of Rea, Razgatlioglu, and Lowes.
With three laps remaining, Rea attempted to make a move on Bautista on the run to turn seven, but he was unsuccessful.
Bautista then set the fastest lap of the race with two laps remaining, before opening up a gap and securing the victory.
After the top four racers, Andrea Locatelli lead the second group after a late move on Bassani, who managed to keep his position in sixth place after overtaking Dominique Aegerter on the last lap.
