Decathlon world record-holder Kevin Mayer of France admitted on Tuesday he only has a 10 per cent chance of taking part in the Paris Olympics.
Mayer, 32, has struggled to recover from a hamstring injury he suffered while hurdling in the Paris Diamond League meeting on 7 July.
"It will be a miracle if it happens," a tearful Mayer said at a press conference.
"The progression I have made over the last week leads me to believe that I maybe have a 10 per cent chance of being on the start line for the 100m," he said, referring to the opening event of the decathlon on Friday.
Mayer won Olympic silver medals in Rio and Tokyo and is also a two-time former world champion (2017, 2022).
He set the world record of 9 126 in 2018.
