Brentford secure long-awaited win against Sheffield United

Brentford secured their first win in 10 Premier League games with a 2-0 home victory over rock-bottom Sheffield United on Saturday.

Brentford coach Thomas Frank said he had asked his team before the match not to let another one pass without a win.

"It was a good performance, but not through the roof," the Danish coach told a news conference.

United manager Chris Wilder echoed his assessment of the game.

"I'm not saying ... we deserved to win, but it was a pretty tight affair," Wilder told reporters.

In the 63rd minute, Brentford’s Mikkel Damsgaard fired a shot at goal that was tipped into the back of the net by Sheffield United's Oliver Arblaster past his own keeper Ivo Grbic.

With his first goal for the West London club, Frank Onyeka doubled the hosts' advantage following an assist from his fellow substitute Kevin Schade in the 93rd minute.

Over the game, two efforts were also disallowed for an offside and a foul.

Brentford moved up a place to 14th in the table on 32 points, ahead of Crystal Palace who play Liverpool on Sunday.

They are seven points clear of the relegation zone with five games to play.

"There's not any fear in the squad about relegation. Obviously, we're aware we have not been too far away from it and anything can happen but we will take it one game at a time," Brentford's Mathias Jorgensen told the BBC.

The last time Brentford, who lost the reverse fixture against United in December, had won a game in the Premier League was in February.

Sheffield United remained at the foot of the standings on 16 points.
