Mozambican captain Dominguêz (Elias Pelembe) has been forced out his country’s World Cup qualifier against Uganda on Thursday to the anger of his coach Chiquinho Conde.

The 41-year-old veteran, who previously stared in the Premier Soccer League for SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns, was unable to get a visa in time for the trip to Egypt, where Mozambique have been forced to host their Group G encounter because of the recent damage to the Zimpeto Stadium in Maputo.

“When we are captains, we have additional responsibilities. We must have the humility to understand that when we are asked for documentation to obtain a visa, we must be the first to set an example,” said Conde.

“Unfortunately Dominguêz only made the passport available on Saturday”.

That was only one day before the Mambas left Maputo for the clash in Cairo.

Mozambique share top place in the group, alongside Algeria, with Uganda only three points behind.

After Thursday’s clash at the Cairo International Stadium, the Mambas will travel to Algeria where they take on the Fennecs in Tizi Ouzou on Tuesday, March 25.
