Natalia Silva became the UFC’s latest champion this weekend after she won a hard-fought five-round bout against Wang Cong in the UFC332 main event at the Delta Centre on Sunday morning to claim the women’s flyweight title.
Silva established a gap on Cong during the first two rounds in Salt Lake City, as her opponent had no answers for the slick striking and movement around the octagon.
While Silva enjoyed a positive start, that often included rapid unanswered combinations, Cong came alive in the championship rounds before subsequently landing her best shots of the fight in the final round.

It was in round three that the tide turned for Cong, who pressed Silva with stinging kicks and stiff jabs as she controlled the centre of the Octagon. Cong continued to find a home for her leg kicks during the final rounds; however, Silva did not hold back and likewise replied with powerful leg kicks of her own.
While it appeared as though Silva had slowed down heading into the fifth round, Cong was once again on her opponent in an attempt to close the gap on the scorecards.
Cong, affectionately known as ‘The Joker’, remained on the front foot and moved forward with her left hand firing away. With Silva backed up against the cage, Cong found success with striking combinations on a few occasions, but failed to get the job done as Silva managed to get out of danger with clever movement.
By the final buzzer, Silva had done enough to win the judges over in a unanimous decision victory to go 9-0 in the UFC as the latest women’s flyweight queen.
